On Saturday 5th July, the East Grinstead Camera Club went on its 4th annual ‘Smartphone Safari’ with the excellent “Jet” of Jet Black Squares Smartphone Photography and Videography. This year 10 members went to the Olympic Park, Stratford, offering us the opportunity to take a mix of shots – as usual Jet pointed us in the right direction to find the most interesting and quirky locations! It was a fun outing and extended our knowledge of what a flexible camera we have in our smartphones.

A week earlier saw 9 East Grinstead Camera Club members, with DSLRs in hand, in a very different location. A photo walk around the Barbican. The brutalist, concrete architecture presented a challenge with the focus on shapes, lines and texture. The overcast sky didn’t give us the strong shadows we were hoping for but there were still plenty of interesting shots to be had.
Two further events are planned – flower photography at Wisely in August and a visit to Warnham Nature Reserve, near Horsham in September. Please contact Val Jenkins if you would like to be added to the list for either of these events.
